ART STAGE Jakarta was back for their second year to cement itself as one of the biggest Southeast Asia international art fair last weekend. Held at Sheraton Grand Jakarta Gandaria City Hotel, apart from showcasing artworks from various local and international galleries, ART STAGE Jakarta had also gathered a series of various art activities from workshops, exhibitions, to art tours.
The series of ART STAGE Jakarta events had actually kicked off earlier the week before with ARTMOSPHERE: Road to ART STAGE Jakarta 2017 at Galeries Lafayette. However, the main highlight to the event was The Art Square that ran from August 12th and 13th. It was the biggest exhibition initiated by ART STAGE with more than 50 exhibitors with artworks, which include Go Yayanagi to the famous Yayoi Kusama. Apart from The Art Square, there’s also Off the Wall – Europe Meets ASEAN where it explored urban arts in the form of graffiti by European and Southeast Asian artists.
ART STAGE is also not hesitant to share the spotlight with other galleries and museums in the city. Last weekend saw visitors getting a special one-day preview of the much-awaited Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara (MACAN), where noted artist, such as FX Harsono put up an art performance. This might be only ART STAGE Jakarta’s second event, but there’s no doubt that the upcoming ones will most likely be highly anticipated by the art enthusiasts in Jakarta.
