While it’s hard to keep track of the coming and going of the buzzy Gunawarman strip, the new addition of About Us brasserie adds a fresh spin with their interpretation of Scandi-Asian dining.
The brasserie is the latest project from Christian Aryadharma, who also runs Kopi Kisah Manis, a café in Bandung known for its warmth and intimate charm. With About Us, Christian scales that feeling into something a little larger, while retaining much of its personal touch. “Beyond a place to eat, we want to create a space where people can celebrate togetherness,” he shared. “Through good food, good drinks, a warm atmosphere, and meaningful conversations.”
Divided into AM and PM offerings, the daytime menu leans into a Copenhagen-style brunch, reimagined through a Southeast Asian lens. For starters, Pelawan mushrooms—also dubbed “truffle of Indonesia”—are served in an umami soy-butter sauce with a side of scrambled eggs and sourdough toast.
On a fresher note, the Watermelon – Tomato Burrata pairs the locally made cheese with tomatoes and avocado alongside pickles, red pepper marmalade and burnt scallion chimichurri. Meanwhile, their lineup of cream brews arrive layered with fragrant flavours such as osmanthus, earl grey and pistachio, which easily doubles as a gentle caffeine fix and a refreshing treat.
By dinner, the flavours shift toward deeper comfort with dishes designed for sharing. A bowl of dry ramen comes topped with a miso-glazed wagyu rump cap; the Chuck Ribs ‘Ssam’ invites diners to build their own wraps with pear-marinated wagyu, kimchi, apple gochujang and banchan.
The interior hums with that same sense of duality. Minimalist but not cold, the room is anchored by steel and concrete, but softened by vintage details—from textured linens, long wooden tables, and framed paintings and trinkets lined along the walls.
Amidst the clamour of dining options in the area, About Us’ simplicity and ease may just nudge it up your to-go list. It’s the kind of place where post-exercise catch-ups over creamy coffee and strawberry matcha easily slips into lingering brunches, and casual lunch meetings delightfully stretch into early dinners—and no one seems in a rush to leave.
