On The Label is a series where we place the spotlight on various local fashion labels through a brief and digestible introduction. Next is NIKICIO, where the label's gender-blurring aesthetic, which instilled with the spirit of youth, continues to be the label's most recognisable trait.

Founded in 2007 by Nina Nikicio, the label NIKICIO is driven by her hopeful ambition to elevate Indonesia’s ready-to-wear fashion to be on a par with global fashion standards. The fashion design graduate from Lasalle College of Arts in Singapore focuses on the insouciant daywear that has cemented its cool status amongst its ardent fans.

NICIKIO excels in delivering pieces that easily matched with just about anything in your wardrobe without forgoing the spirit of youth. This is reflected in each of their collection, from basic essentials such as loose-fitting t-shirts to more refined tailored outerwear pieces.

In 2014, the helm of Creative Director of NIKICIO was entrusted to Abraham Dewanggana as Nina took a break from designing to look after her newborn daughter. The aesthetic of the label shifted under Abraham for a couple of seasons, where it developed on a more artsy direction. However, Nina returned to NIKICIO with Spring/Summer 2016 collection that hit all the right spots for the diehard fans of the label.

With years of experience under her belt, Nina continues to hone the label’s edgy and gender-blurring aesthetic while maintaining the integrity of the clothes and its practicality. You can be sure there will be more great things to come for Nikicio in the near future.
