The Whimsical Guten Morgen

Guten Morgen serves as a pit stop from the crowded streets of Tomang, where you can unwind over coffee and breakfast against the backdrop of their flora-themed interior.

Hidden between the streets of Tomang, Guten Morgen bids a welcoming invite with its neighbourly facade that stands in contrast with mundane buildings surround it. With its warm wooden door and potted plants decorating the patio, it’s clear how the coffee shop tries to break away from the chaotic area of West Jakarta by embracing a calming garden-like indoor space.

Fans of flowers and plants would likely to stretch their time here, for one of the most interesting aspects of the café is its inviting interior. Flower vases, hanging plants and an abundance of greens here and there – the place makes for a peculiarly pleasant haunt for the green fingers.

Their interest of flowers is not only reflected through the interior, but their menu as well. Edible flower petals serve as embellishment could be found in several drinks, for instance the Kaffe Cubes. The latter is a glass of ice cubes that is made up of house blend espresso and honey, served with a small jug of milk. Aside from coffee, the refreshing Morning Dew mocktail showcases what seem like a yellow smoothie garden with colourful tiny edible petals.

As hinted by its name (Guten Morgen means “good morning” in German), the establishment swears by breakfast. Guten Morgen Breakfast (German pork sausage, tomato salad and egg) is usually the go-to for regulars, but one can’t just go past the sinful Wagyu Lasagne that is bathed in béchamel sauce. Round it all up with something from the sweet bar, a burst of sweet from the caramel raisin ice cream.

Whenever you’re around the area, it’s really recommended to make a pit stop at Guten Morgen. Unwind yourself by the communal table, and before leaving, be sure to stop by the flower studio (by Mimsy Botanical florist) at the backside of the coffee shop. There’s a guarantee that you’ll be leaving with a satisfied tummy after fuelling up here, and also, developing a fondness for plants.
