After becoming a neighbourhood favourite in Bali through its Sanur and Ubud locations, Sala has opened its first Jakarta outpost at Pondok Indah Mall 5. Named after the word for “living room”, the all-day bistro carries that idea into its design. An open kitchen anchors one end of the space, a coffee bar the other, while an outdoor terrace opens towards the adjoining park, creating different corners for different ways of spending the day.
Alongside many of the dishes that made Sala popular in Bali, the Jakarta outpost introduces several exclusive additions and subtle adjustments that respond to the city’s own dining habits, allowing the restaurant to settle naturally into its new neighbourhood.
Brunch is served daily from 8 AM to 3 PM, with eggs taking different forms across much of the menu. Exclusive to Jakarta, the Sala Egg Muffin layers a wagyu smash patty, hash brown, cheese and a sunny-side-up egg inside a soft muffin. Once the yolk breaks, it ties every layer together into a rich, satisfying bite. The Chilli Scrambled Egg takes a different direction. Creamy scrambled eggs provide a gentle base for savoury JONO beef chorizo and the sharpness of capers, while the sourdough beneath brings the dish together with every forkful.
And what better to accompany the brunch menu than one of the bistro’s other specialities. Coffee has always been part of Sala’s identity, and Jakarta continues that tradition by brewing with green beans from Bali’s renowned Seniman Roastery. Among the signatures is the Sala Signature, where espresso and milk are sweetened with palm sugar before a touch of sea salt rounds out the finish. For something lighter, the Mont Blanc offers a refreshing alternative that sits comfortably alongside the restaurant’s all-day menu.
The Jakarta outpost introduces another subtle change through its sourdough pizzas. Unlike those served in Bali, each pizza arrives in a personal portion, making it just as suitable for a solo meal as it is for sharing alongside other dishes. For those dining alone, the window-side counter feels like a natural place to enjoy the Smoked Salmon Pizza, whose crisp crust pairs comfortably with the refreshing All Berries Smoothie while indulging in leisurely people-watching.
Comfort continues through the restaurant’s mains. The Egg Chiffon with Crispy Chicken pairs fried rice, chicken and egg, with gravy and chilli oil served on the side so diners can season each bite to their own liking. For a richer take on the mains, go for The Steak Frites. Prepared Mustofa-style, the crisp, slender fries make an ideal companion to the medium-rare steak, especially when both are coated in the buttery Café de Paris sauce.
Different corners of Sala lend themselves to different moments throughout the day. Long communal tables accommodate everything from shared meals to casual work sessions, while the terrace overlooking the park feels especially inviting on sunny afternoons. Desserts like the Brioche Bread Pudding make a fitting companion after an afternoon spent wandering through the mall. Much like its Bali counterparts, Sala encourages people to settle in. But through subtle changes to its menu, layout and all-day format, the Jakarta outpost also adapts naturally to the city’s pace, becoming an easy stop before the rest of the day continues.
