The premise of Luc Coffee is simple: a friendly atmosphere set within a cosy neighbourhood feel. It’s something that founder Lucky Suherman brought over from the flagship at Lucy Curated Compound Bintaro to its new location in Panglima Polim, finding a home in the same neighbourhood that has kept Brookland Coffee, Lucky’s first business, thriving five years into its establishment.
Deviating from Bintaro’s coffee shop concept, this second outlet bills itself as a dessert shop. The grand glass door entrance gives way to jewel-toned sofas, pastel accents, and playful tapestries and artworks gracing the interior. Lucky’s penchant for biking and skateboarding, a personal touch present in all of his previous establishments, can still be found here, with bicycles adorning the bar area.
Those familiar with Luc Coffee in Bintaro will recognise some of their offerings here, including their #justgr8 coffee—a nod to their “just great” philosophy of keeping things simple yet uncompromising on flavour and quality. However, at this location, desserts take centre stage. The selection, developed by pastry chef Anjani Rahardjo, includes the Lemony Snickers, a lemon cake topped with mascarpone cream and dainty dots of tangy lemon curd; the Lazy Cheesecake, smothered in rich chocolate ganache and sprinkled with crumbles for a satisfying crunch; and the PBJ French Toast, a callback to a favourite menu from Brookland, served with cornflakes and a generous drizzle of maple syrup.
Consider yourself lucky if you can immediately indulge in their best-selling signature Tiramisu, a faithful rendition of the classic with layers of soft coffee-soaked ladyfinger biscuits and mascarpone cream. But, if you do find yourself having to wait, settle into one of their plush chairs or grab a seat overlooking the coffee bar to sip on their signature drinks. Try the orange and cold brew combo Mont Blanc, topped with vanilla cream, or opt for Strawberry Matcha for a lighter mix of strawberry milk and matcha foam.
From morning visits by post-workout regulars and professionals working remotely to colleagues enjoying a midday break, the steady stream of patrons at Luc Coffee never seems to wane. It’s easy to see how the new location has intertwined into the rhythm of the Panglima Polim neighbourhood with its no-frills, laidback atmosphere and offerings that aren’t trying to be anything it’s not—it’s simply ‘just great’.
