This Spring/Summer 2015, discerning modern men all over Jakarta are bound to enjoy more reasons to look stylish with the arrival of Markus Lupfer’s latest, also its first-ever, menswear collection in The PAPILION duo – a multi-label concept store known to house atypical labels such as, Comme des Garcons, Each X Other, Dries van Noten, Junya Watanabe and Tsumori Chisato.
Launched in December 1998, the label has subsequently been noted for offering humourous subversive knitwear, easy daywear with inspiring use of colours and surreal prints, which are, of course, highly wearable. The latter is further proven with a fruitful collaboration with Topman.
For the latest Spring/Summer 2015, skate and surf culture in L.A. provides a crucial anchor to the entire collection and is infused with easy bohemian spirit. To wit, an otherwise repetitive grey sweater is livened up with strips of hand-painted floral prints and daily basics, like T-shirt, are updated with bold geometric prints and Hockney-inspired camouflage.
For the latest arrival of Markus Lupfer’s collection, The PAPILION duo and Manual are presenting an exclusive collaboration. As a symbolic gesture of welcoming Markus Lupfer into Jakarta, Manual has constructed several collages by merging some of Markus Lupfer’s Mens S/S 2015 pieces onto the everyday life scene of Jakarta.
In it, the humour and sublime graphic prints of the collection are further amplified when applied onto the images of Jakarta as the backdrop. For this brief moment, the chaotic and offbeat city of Jakarta enjoyed a quick face-lift while, amusingly, keeping the witty and playful spirit of Markus Lupfer intact at the same time.
The idea of Markus Lupfer and Jakarta might, at first, seem like a miscalculated union. However, the two shares more similarities than one could imagine.
