Within few years after the launch of designer Peggy Hartanto‘s eponymous label, her creations have steadily received global nods of approval and worn by prominent local figures to international names, such as Gigi Hadid and Zendaya.
After earning a degree from the Australian university Raffles College of Design and Commerce, Surabaya-raised Peggy returned home to establish her self-titled label, which debuted with her first ready-to-wear collection “UNSEEN”, launched at the 2013 edition of Jakarta Fashion Week.
The unpredictability of her creative mind and collections that eloquently speak the idea of ‘daring in simplicity’ lead to a ceaseless cult acclamation, winning her Asia Next Generation Fashion Designer Award from Harper’s Bazaar Indonesia in 2013 and Young Designer Prize from The Australia-Indonesia Center in the year after. Fast forward to 2016, Peggy Hartanto was recently inaugurated as one of the young and distinguished games changers in the Arts section of Forbes’ 30 under 30 Asia list.
Drawing inspirations from Steven Meyer’s floral X-ray photos to Albino creatures, Peggy through her PEGGY HARTANTO label translates distinctive shapes and rich colors of life’s wonders into unique pieces of dress and separates.
With no exception is her Spring-Summer 2016 collection, titled “FIN”, which transforms vast marine life into color-popping dresses in red and blue. The pieces in this collection retain a minimalist representation, adorned with playful details such as oversized knot on the waist as a delicate rendition of real life fins, played out through light-weight materials that glide and flow.
Never overdone but always on point, Peggy Hartanto celebrates women’s sophistication and intelligent sensuality through dramatic cutouts and body-skimming silhouettes, giving all women the right kind of attention they need.
