Heading to the mall may be a dull routine that many of us would prefer to avoid as much as possible. But luckily, there has been a growing number of worthy establishments residing within mall, which prove that a trip into the shopping centre is not a bad idea after all.
One such example is Pippo in Senayan City Mall. Occupying a spacious corner in the lower ground floor, this Italian restaurant cum bar is another addition from BIKO, the group that has Fūjin, Lola and Pao Pao under it wings.
Fans of low-key and authentic Italian dishes that place focus on quality ingredients and taste will find much to love in Pippo. From cold cuts, starters, pastas to pizzas, the selection of dishes in each section is controlled but thought-through. Of course, when it comes to pasta or risotto, the safest bet is definitely the option with truffle and mushroom sauce.
Nevertheless, it pays to opt for something less familiar when you’re in Pippo. To wit, Raviolini in Brodo soup (fresh pasta filled with cheese in light soup) is a satisfying way to kick off the meal or to fill your tummy if you’re feeling a little under the weather. The same applies to their pizza. Move away from the typical Italian meatballs, and go for their Carbonara version or Seafood & Rucola instead.
And since you’re in an Italian establishment then you might as well dine like an Italian. Have a glass of Bellini or two to accompany you through the meal. Other great alternatives include their house cocktails, such as the recommended Bramble Porpora. In short, just keep the booze coming.
Even though there are plenty of booth seats to cater for a more intimate setting, the best spot in Pippo is their semi-outdoor area. Drop by during golden hour in late weekend afternoon and install yourself in the rattan chair, then while away the time with a plate of cold cuts and Prosecco in one hand. Italy may be miles away, but with Pippo, at least you can indulge yourself the Italian way.
