The current embrace of streetwear is no doubt paralleled by the rise of high end streetwear labels around the world. Leading the pack is Off-White for sure. With a cult following and a string of stores in major cities worldwide, Off-White is now securing Jakarta under its big belt by settling within the high-end mall of Plaza Indonesia.
Off-White came into the fashion radar back in 2013 and is led by Creative Director Virgil Abloh, who is also currently Louis Vuitton Men’s Artistic Director. The label’s pieces are unmistakably fused with contemporary cultures targeted at those in the know. Their signature diagonal stripes as well as distinguishing quotation marks adorning ready-to-wear pieces, are just some of the key visuals that immediately pop in mind, even if you’re not an avid fan.
Off-White’s contemporary aesthetic also plays into the store’s design in Plaza Indonesia. Located in a corner on the ground floor, the retail store catches attention with a bright and pared-down interior. Likewise, black and white marble flooring and marbled fixtures pervades the neat space, along with luxurious satin-steel furniture to match.
Displayed across the white metallic hangers are the label’s latest menswear and womenswear that ranges from casual t-shirts, hoodies to more formal outerwear. Safe to say, there’s something for everyone here, including more accessible accessories like smartphone covers, sneakers and belts. Plus, not forgetting the currently buzzy Off-White x Rimowa luggage.
While it’s been established that Plaza Indonesia is Jakarta’s destination for a high-end fashion spree, the mall’s image as luxury malls may push away potential young affluent shoppers. But with Off-White in the picture, the presence of the label is clearly providing the right nudge with a youthful disposition.
