Exquise Patisserie

1st October 2015
The intimate quality and decadent desserts of Exquise have all the characteristics of a neighbourhood shop that answers to your sweet cravings.

There’s always this familiar patisserie in every neighbourhood that answers to your sweet-craving needs. For Menteng denizens, it is the French-inspired café, Exquise Patisserie.

Exquise Patisserie has been around for a couple of years. Before, they survived on online and phone orders from customers who were mostly requesting cakes for corporate events. That is, until one of the customers asked, “When are you going to launch a patisserie?” The question lingered on, and not long after, it was put into action in early 2015.

The patisserie occupies a small shop in Rumah Cokro, a homely one-storey shopping arcade that looks as though it is imported directly from a suburb in one of European countries. And Exquise fits suitably with the image.

Exquise is pint-sized with sleek wooden table and chair settings, along with shelves that are full with simple ornaments like vintage frames and teapots. Even though the place could barely seat 10 people, it is this kind of intimacy that characterise a neighbourhood shop that you wish to be familiar with.

Judging from the cake display, it is clear that Exquise’s territory revolves around gateaux. Each of its petit gateau is bestowed with an apt Parisian personality. Pierre, the stoic yet dependable guy everyone looks up to, is a dark chocolate mousse with a passion fruit curd surprise in the middle. The spirited, cheery Emilie is a mango mousse layered with plenty burst of flavours.

Imagine sipping your tea with a faithful company of a good book and a sweet little gateau on your plate. Couple that with a tranquil garden view and an untainted breath of fresh air. Oh, to add a little more appeal, Exquise also serves mean coffee. All the more reason then to stay longer at this place.
