Citywalk Sudirman Mall may be a default hangout spot for most of the office crowds around the district. But, that is all set to change thanks to Common Grounds café. It’s easy to spot this establishment with its clean and straightforward interior that is jarring in comparison to its neighbour. Common Grounds may seem like a fish out of water in this mall but once seated, it feels as if everything else, except for this establishment, is the one that is out of place.
Started by three founders – Aston Utan, Yoshua Tanu and Daryanto Witarsa, Common Grounds draws a mixed but consistent crowd in Citywalk Mall. But that’s the purpose. Aston commented that he didn’t want Common Grounds to serve coffee that is only accessible to a few. Their choice of coffee ranges from the classics like cappuccino and espresso to filter coffee. One of Common Grounds’ barista, Iwan Setiawan, is the winner of Indonesia Latte Art Championship in 2014. So don’t be surprised to find polished latte art sitting on top of your coffee.
But their all-day breakfast is the ace card. The menu though focuses towards western influences, offers something for everyone here. Their Eggs Benedict is a no-brainer decision. But for a change, opt for Shashouska – poached eggs in a bed of tomato sauce or a simple Japanese rice bowl. Best of all, the establishment did not skimp on their ingredients and is generous with the serving portion.
Common Grounds is the kind of all-day breakfast coffee joint that draws visits on regular basis thanks to its familiarity. No matter how you like your coffee or breakfast, rest assured that you’d find a common ground in this establishment.
