A Table at Yū

Meet Yū, who brings modern Taiwanese comfort food to the table with its two-month only pop-up dining concept.

Taiwanese cuisine is rarely highlighted in Jakarta, apart from the deliciously sinful street-food snacks from Shihlin and bubble tea. Yet, despite Jakartans’ unfamiliarity towards the cuisine, Yū pop-up dining has no qualms about bringing Taiwanese food to their kitchen.

Yū (means happiness in Hokkien) arrives as a pop-up dining concept that features modern Taiwanese comfort food. The team, consisting of trio Aryo Suharnoko, Abang Rolansyah and Narrarya Soemarsono, started the concept from their special liking to Aryo’s home-made Taiwanese fried chicken. It then resulted in Yū, which first made appearance in food bazaar, and soon, a pop-up concept.

Their favourite food made it to the menu, along with other modifications of the dish such as fried chicken sandwich and chicken skin fries. Others on the menu are equally tempting, like their braised minced beef rice bowl with cured egg yolk (soaked in soy sauce) on top as well as chicken congee to comfort your peckish tummy. And when they say “comfort food”, they really mean it; apart from satisfying the palate, each dish comes in a generous portion. Lastly, ice cream sandwich wraps up the course with its sweet-soft-cold combination: vanilla ice cream and a blob of Nutella, squeezed between fried mantou.

The pop-up nature of Yū means that it will only stay for a while, so it is recommended to seize the chance while you still can as it is currently running for two months only at Park 5 boutique hotel in Cilandak; although, it’s highly likely they would establish a more permanent space some time soon.

Yū is running every weekend for two months only at Park 5 Cilandak. Visit @yu.jakarta on Instagram for more info.
