Komunitas Salihara is staging a three-week event of discussions, films and performances at the Literature and Ideas Festival (LIFEs) 2017 with a focus on Latin America culture.

Komunitas Salihara presents Literature and Ideas Festival (LIFEs) – a program from Salihara Literary Biennale, with the support from the Embassies of Colombia, Argentina and Brazil to name a few, that revolves around the theme of Reading Latin America: VIVA! REBORN! With this year’s theme, subjects such as the magic-realism literary genre, traditional and socialist political movements, and the dependency theology will be up for discussion.

Over the span of three weeks, films, workshops and performances will be held in Komunitas Salihara, Pasar Minggu. Highlighting the Latin American culture, patrons will have the chance to attend activities from a four-day book bazaar, to developing narrations in a workshop with Sergio Chejfec as well as the chance to voice their ideas with actors from diverse cultural backgrounds in Diskusi Meja Bundar (Round Table Discussion). In addition, collaborative performances and art exhibitions will also be held throughout the festival.

More than just a window into the culture and way of life in Latin America, LIFEs 2017 also brings the opportunity to observe the similarities between the region and Indonesia along with the knowledge and experience that we can learn from each other.

Literature and Ideas Festival (LIFEs) 2017 will be held in Komunitas Salihara starting from October 7th to October 28th 2017. For more information on available programs, head over to www.salihara.org/programs/lifes or contact them on +62 21 7891202.
