To hold private events in a quiet and verdant enclave is almost unimaginable in the boisterous Jakarta. But shift your attention to Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, an approximate 30-minute drive from Ampera Street, and you’ll find Omah Ndelik, an ideal function space to hold your close-knit events.
Omah Ndelik is intimate and secluded that once inside, you’ll find it easy to make-believe that you’re either in Puncak or Bandung. No wonder it is named Omah Ndelik, which means “hidden home” in Javanese.
Away from the hubbub outside, Omah Ndelik brims instead with bird chatter, shrubs rustling against the wind and relaxing sound of water splashing about from the Koi pool. The main attraction of Omah Ndelik is Villa Arthatyani, a wood-based hybrid of traditional Manadonese and Javanese Joglo house. To get into the villa involves a short languid walk through beautiful low archways that are covered in thick greens.
In the heart of the house is a long rectangular swimming pool that sits beside a patio. Thanks to the tarpauline that stretches on top of the latter, the patio is the coolest spot in the house where refreshing breeze streams through, coupled with friendly streaks of sunrays that are just the perfect amount to go with your private event, say a birthday party.
And of course, the title ‘villa’ wasn’t attached without purpose. If you feel a day at Villa Arthatyani isn’t enough, there are rooms provided to stay in for the night. The villa is big and mysterious enough to satisfy your curious itch. There seems to be new nooks every time you explore the establishment.
Indeed there’s a price to pay for such a perfect escape. Getting there requires a little bit of a chore. A 15-minute drive from Ragunan Zoo leads you to Moh. Kahfi I Street. Follow the road until you find Swalayan Cahaya on your left, and enter Damai Street alley which is right across the former. Head straight until you reach a sloping road, and Omah Ndelik is right behind the tall timber gate on your right.
